What is the human cost of drug trafficking? See “Kingdom of Shadows” on PBS

Picture

In  a world of violence and death due to the rise of gangs and smugglers running drugs, your local public television station will likely be broadcasting Kingdom of Shadows on PBS on September 19, 2016. The film tells the human side of the US-Mexico drug war, following the story of an activist nun in Mexico, a US enforcement officer, and a former Texas smuggler.

If your congregation or justice group would like to show this at a different time, PBS can make a DVD available to you. We hoped you might be able to help us spread the word about the film and its broadcast on PBS. They have designed a Kingdom of Shadows Partner Toolkit  web page (here)  to make it easy to spread the word via social media, and to access any additional resources.

The PBS team’s mission is to lend documentaries for free to organizations for free community/staff screenings. You are welcome to borrow the film for a “sneak preview” screening before its national broadcast on POV, or anytime that works best for your schedule.

There are just a few simple steps to borrow the film from our free Lending Library:
Register in the POV Community Network.
Activate your account: Check your inbox for an activation link and temporary password. (email events@pov.org if you do not receive this email within 24hrs.)
Request: Log-in to your account and click “Create an Event” to register your screening.
Screen: PBS will send the DVD to you about one month prior to your event, then you just send it back after your screening.

The drug wars aren’t about just drugs but about people and the toll smuggling takes on their lives.  This impacts a great deal of our immigration issues and basic human morality.  It is a subject about which we must become more wise.

Thank you for your interest.
