Peace is not just about the absence of war but about how we come together in humane and life-sustaining ways.
From global issues of power and violence to conflict resolution among neighbors, these are issues that impact us in every aspect of our lives.
California Council of Churches has engaged in peace and justice work on many levels:
- Abolition of torture
- Engaging in restorative justice for criminals, victims, and society
- Fighting the ‘cradle to prison’ pipeline for too many of our youth
- Opposing the death penalty
- Working against the spread of hate crimes
- Promoting deliberative dialogue as opposed to venomous debate
- Promoting sane gun control that respects the Second Amendment while stopping gun violence
- Working against entry into armed conflict and pressing for internationally-based dispute resolutions between nations and people
- Support for ‘the least and the lost’ among our homeless, elders, infirm, unemployed whom society has too often abandoned and are too often victimized.
We work daily to spread the message of non-violence, empathy, and patience as the orienting principles for both conflict resolution and support for others.
