Protestantism was a manifestation of freedom of conscience. Individuals then large movements of people established various denominations through their commitment to specific principles, interpretations of their faith, and long deliberation over what they believed their faith required of and offered to them.
Commitment to freedom of principle, whatever it may be, is a core value for our work. Respecting and sustaining the values of our member denominations and those of our allies is an essential part of our work.
Challenging those who would erode our rights is equally part of our mission. Fighting both efforts to establish supremacy and to repress religious rights of others, we support those who are different from us but threatened with the loss of freedom of thought and belief.
We also stand with those who have become victims of religious extremism world wide. From genocidal attacks to draconian laws that scapegoat particular people in the name of religious dominance, we have worked to end these heinous abuses and reject their claims of supremacy.
We work to uphold First Amendment rights in every sector so that those who are silenced, threatened, and coerced have our support morally, politically, and even legally in their fight for free expression of their values, beliefs, practices.
